We received word that Dr. Donald D. Anderson passed away. Dr. Anderson served as Lutherlyn's Director in 1963 taking over from Pastor Samuel S. Shaulis. During his tenure, Hunker Hall received a much needed small dining hall addition, the Trinity Pines Outpost and Conestoga Wagon programs were established, and the barn property was purchased which later ushered in the Lutherlyn Stables programs. In 1967 Dr. Anderson continued to serve as a pastor within the Pittsburgh region as he handed directorship of Lutherlyn to Mr. Edward Miller. Our thoughts and prayers go to the surviving members of Dr. Anderson's family.

Family Halloween Fun Photos have been posted on Facebook instead of our website gallery (due to the number of photos). Also, some light, wet snow flurries are falling here today. It is a dreary day and, like many of you, we have not seen the sun here since Friday. However, we are happy to report that despite the wind and constant rain, Lutherlyn made it through Superstorm Sandy without any damage! Thank you to all who keep this place in your prayers. Lutherlyn and the Woodland Quilters would like to thank all the people that came to the Quilt Show this past weekend! The weekend featured many beautiful quilts, home baked goods, and great prizes. All proceeds of this quilt show is going toward the Lutherlyn Campership Fund! On behalf of the campers, thank you again!

Upcoming Saturday Safari - Spend the morning learning about some of the skills that Native Americans needed to have to survive in the forests of Pennsylvania. We will learn to build a simple shelter, play some games, and learn some simple trapping techniques.

Thank you to all the summer campers, parents, and donors who gave towards this summer's Under the Radar Campaign! This summer we raised $8,456.51 towards curbing Malaria in Africa. The check was sent to the ELCA Malaria Campaign this morning! We look forward to the next Under the Radar project next summer!

This week the Woodland Quilters transformed the small dining hall into a marathon quilt making shop. Their goal -- to piece together quilts to be donated for Lutheran World Relief. This is the second year they have participated in this opportunity. Thanks to the many hands that helped and the fabric and material donations. Available this fall -- The Lutherlyn Adventure Program is expanding its reach by making adventure experiences available for reservation. These elements can be added to rental retreat groups reservations or offered as day trip programs. High Ropes Course and Zipline, Climbing Chimney and Bouldering Room, Group Challenge Courses are some of the offerings. Soon to be available -- off-site adventure excursions! The Under the Radar Campaign for 2012 is soon wrapping up. However, despite a large last week surge, we are still behind our goal of raising $10,000 (equivalent to 1,000 mosquito nets). Rev. Ronald Harbaugh of Greenville, PA passed away on August 2, 2012. Pastor Ron recently retired in July from St. John's Lutheran Church in Greenville. He was able to come one last time to Lutherlyn for a few days of God's Camp Confirmation Camp this summer.

Pastor Ron has been involved with Lutherlyn since the 1970's. He has served as a board member, been involved in many maintenance projects including wiring the Amphitheater lighting, building the stables tack room, and building remodeling projects.

His most enduring role has been bringing his congregational youth to confirmation camp each year for the past 20 years. He came to be the leader of God's Camp for the last 17 years. Through God's Camp Ron was able to help give back to Lutherlyn through the 3rd Year Enrichment Program where he worked with his students to work on service projects throughout camp property.

Thank you Pastor Ron for all you have done for your congregation and Lutherlyn.
